In a heartfelt and emotional moment, Jennifer Lopez opened up about the transformative love she shares with her husband, Ben Affleck. In her new documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” now streaming on Prime Video, Lopez tearfully expressed how Affleck’s love has profoundly changed her life.
“What he made me believe about myself only comes from love, because nobody else could make me see that about myself,” Lopez said, tears welling up in her eyes. “It’s very moving because I didn’t think much of myself, and so the world didn’t think much of me. That lined up when Ben and I got back together.”
Lopez reminisced about the early days of their rekindled romance, revealing how it reignited her passion for music and creativity. “It was just like I wanted to make music again. I wanted to get back in the studio. I was very, very inspired,” she shared.
The documentary delves into their journey, exploring their past and the evolution of their relationship. Lopez and Affleck first started dating in 2002, quickly becoming one of the most famous celebrity couples in the world. “We bought a Bentley and drove around town with it. You know, it’s like: yeah, take pictures of us. We were just celebrating our lives and our love,” Lopez recounted.
By 2003, they were engaged and planning a grand wedding with 14 ushers and bridesmaids. However, the intense media scrutiny took a toll on their relationship, leading to their breakup just three days before the wedding. “We crumbled under the pressure,” Lopez admitted. “It was my first kind of heartbreak. The massive amount of scrutiny around our private life was the catalyst for that.”
Despite the heartbreak and nearly 20 years apart, Lopez and Affleck found their way back to each other in 2021. “One of the things I didn’t want was a relationship on social media,” Lopez noted. “But then I realized it’s not fair to ask that. We’re just two people with different approaches trying to learn to compromise.”
Their collaboration extends beyond their personal lives into their professional endeavors as well. The documentary goes behind the scenes of the making of “This Is Me Now,” a musical experience inspired by their love story. Lopez emphasized the deep connection and understanding they share, stating, “Nobody knows my story better than he does. We were able to sit down and really dig into it in a way I don’t think any other writer could have done with me.”
Reflecting on their journey, Lopez highlighted the importance of forgiveness and self-love. “I think for us to move on from that, we have to forgive it, forgive each other. I think I’ve forgiven you all the way,” she said to Affleck. “I think I need to forgive myself.”
Lopez hopes that her story will inspire others to believe in the existence of true love. “If I could use my story to do that, then, as an artist, that’s what I should do,” she said. “This was something different. This was something a little bit more evolved and healed and, uh, I don’t know, kind of magical. And so I wanted to do something special to go along with it.”
Through their love and artistic collaboration, Lopez and Affleck have created a powerful narrative that showcases the resilience of their bond and the transformative power of love.
