Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg Clash Over “The Chronic” Inspiration.n

On Tuesday, March 19th, soon after being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, veteran producer Dr. Dre made an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and brought Snoop Dogg out to join him. During the interview, the conversation shifted to Dr. Dre’s 1992 landmark album, The Chronic, which also helped launch Snoop Dogg’s solo career. However, the two hip-hop legends had entirely different explanations for how the LP’s title was conceived.

When asked about the origin of The Chronic title, Dr. Dre shared his story: “My first time smoking weed, I was in the car in my driveway. We were halfway through the album, and there was a female—I’m not going to say her name. She told me, ‘This is called The Chronic,’ and boom, here we are.”

In contrast, Snoop Dogg offered a different version: “Me and my homies were in Long Beach, and it was a white guy that used to come through the apartments and bring us bud. He had hydroponic, but we started saying hydrochronic and flipped it. That’s when we started saying, ‘Oh, this weed is bomb. It’s The Chronic.’ And Dre’s album was so bomb it only made sense to call it The Chronic because it was the bombest thing on the street.”

Despite the differing stories, both agreed that the title The Chronic perfectly encapsulated the revolutionary impact and high quality of Dr. Dre’s album, which went on to become a defining moment in hip-hop history.

During the same chat, Dr. Dre made an exciting announcement about Eminem. The N.W.A legend revealed that Eminem is set to release a new album later this year. “Eminem is working on his own album, which is coming out this year,” Dr. Dre said. “I actually talked to him, and he said it was okay for me to make that announcement right here on this show.”

Dr. Dre added that he has contributed to the album and praised its quality: “I’ve got songs on it, and it’s fire. I’m actually going to hear the entire album for the first time tomorrow. Eminem holds his music close to his chest, so I haven’t heard everything, but I’m excited.”

This revelation has fans eagerly anticipating new music from Eminem, adding to the excitement sparked by the discussion of The Chronic and its legacy.
