Newly released body camera footage sheds light on a police shooting incident in Killingly, Conn, with ties to Rhode Island. The suspect, Ruben Mueller, was being sought in connection with a robbery when troopers responded to alerts from Rhode Island authorities.
According to reports, troopers approached Mueller at a gas station in Killingly. When asked to present his license, Mueller claimed he didn’t have one and fled across the parking lot. In the pursuit, a trooper discharged his Taser, temporarily incapacitating Mueller. However, Mueller regained his footing and continued to run, ultimately colliding with a moving pickup truck.
As per the report, Mueller retrieved a revolver from his ankle after the collision. Faced with this threat, the trooper fired, striking Mueller in the chest. Mueller was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains hospitalized. It is yet to be determined if he will face charges in connection with the incident.
The release of the bodycam footage offers a glimpse into the intensity and split-second decision-making that law enforcement officers often face in high-stress situations.
