Police in Charlotte, North Carolina are investigating a disturbing shooting incident that occurred in broad daylight on April 30th.
According to authorities, two teenage suspects exited a convenience store and opened fire on a vehicle in the parking lot, using an assault rifle and a handgun. Surveillance footage analyzed by a Charlotte Mecklenburg Police detective shows one of the suspects pulling out an assault rifle and unleashing a barrage of gunfire towards the victim’s car.
The video reveals the back window of the victim’s vehicle was down, though no guns were visible from the footage. The hail of bullets from the assault rifle ultimately struck the victim twice in the buttocks, though the injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.
Investigators say one of the teen suspects wielding the assault rifle has been apprehended, but they are still searching for the taller suspect who used the handgun during the brazen attack.
Police expressed concern over the audacious nature of the shooting, as a nearby resident reported that their home and car were also struck by the stray bullets.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of the outstanding suspect to contact the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. This incident serves as a troubling example of the gun violence plaguing communities and the need for continued efforts to address youth crime and access to firearms.
