Tallahassee Police Officer Shot During Drug-Related Home Invasion (VIDEO)

At approximately 2:30 am on September 25, officers with the Tallahassee Police Department responded to what was initially reported as a residential burglary in the 2300 block of Sandpiper Street involving multiple armed suspects. page. As officers approached the scene, they observed a suspect matching the description provided in the 911 call fleeing the residence. Authorities chased and ordered the suspect to stop, but the suspect did not comply. During the foot pursuit, another suspect emerged from the residence and began shooting at officers.

One of the responding officers, Caleb Babb, was hit by gunfire. Despite his injuries, the officers immediately returned fire, leading to a tense exchange. Officer Babb was quickly taken to a local hospital for surgery for his serious injuries. Currently, Officer Babb is in stable condition and has been discharged to Encompass Health, where medical professionals continue to assist him in regaining strength and mobility.

In recognition of his bravery and the severe injuries he sustained, Officer Babb was awarded the Purple Heart by Chief Revell. This prestigious award, the highest honor given to a member of the Tallahassee Police Department seriously injured or killed in the line of duty, was presented to Officer Babb less than a week after the incident. Notably, Officer Babb is the fourth person to receive this award and the first person to receive this award while alive.

The rapid response and diligent investigation by the Tallahassee Police Department resulted in the arrest and charging of all three suspects involved in the home invasion within ten days of the incident. The suspects now face multiple charges related to the drug-related trespass and the fatal shooting of Officer Babb.
