Car Thief Resists Arrest, Pulls Gun on Cops, Gets Shot (VIDEO)

 

Columbus, OH – In a confrontation that unfolded on the streets of Columbus, Ohio, a suspected car thief was shot by police after he resisted arrest and produced a firearm.

According to authorities, officers from the Columbus Police Department were responding to reports of a stolen vehicle on the city’s west side around 11 p.m. on June 9th. When they located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

A pursuit ensued, with Watkins eventually pulling over and fleeing on foot. Officers caught up to him and tried to place him under arrest, but Watkins violently resisted, police say.

During the struggle, Watkins allegedly reached for a gun he was carrying. Fearing for their safety, the officers opened fire, striking Watkins multiple times.

Watkins was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition. No officers were injured in the incident.

The Columbus Police Department has launched a full investigation into the shooting. Body camera footage from the officers involved is expected to be released in the coming days as part of the probe.

This marks the latest in a string of police-involved shootings in the Columbus area, sparking renewed calls from community leaders for greater transparency and accountability around the use of force by law enforcement.
