Rogan, who once proudly identified with the liberal sphere while living in Los Angeles, expressed disillusionment with what he now describes as the left’s increasingly radical stance. “I was 100% a left-leaning person who lived in Los Angeles,” Rogan recalled. “But California went nuts, man. It’s gone like full communist.”
The comedian and podcaster criticized various liberal policies, particularly those regarding law enforcement and social issues. He pointed to California’s handling of criminal justice, including no cash bail and lenient policies on theft, as contributing to the deterioration of cities like San Francisco. “The approach to law enforcement is so insane,” Rogan lamented, adding that the city’s decline has made it almost unrecognizable. “San Francisco is non-existent. It’s ruined.”
Rogan’s critique extended to social issues, specifically the concept of “gender-affirming care” for minors. He argued that such policies, which he believes ignore long-term health risks, reflect a troubling trend of leftist extremism. “You’re chopping off and giving little kids hormone blockers. You have no idea what the long-term consequences are,” Rogan asserted. “It’s not about treating people humanely; it’s about making a statement to show you’re on the right team.”
He also mentioned how his former allies in the liberal sphere have reacted harshly to his views, likening the situation to a cult-like environment where dissent is met with excommunication. “People that you thought were aligned with you are now mad at you,” Rogan said. “It’s got all the hallmarks of a cult.”
Rogan’s transition to a more moderate stance is accompanied by a critique of the current political landscape, including leaders and policies he views as exacerbating the situation. He suggested that figures like Jon Stewart and California Governor Gavin Newsom have perpetuated the problems he describes. “Who is closer to reality?” Rogan asked, contrasting his views with those of Stewart and Newsom, whom he believes have mishandled significant issues.
Despite his criticism, Rogan expressed a desire for a more balanced approach and urged for a candid and honest assessment of political issues. “Everyone is going to have to call balls and strikes honestly and let the chips fall where they may,” he said. “Be brave and fight, because between the border, Iran, and the issues with children, there’s got to be a way out of this thing.”
