Now, let’s talk about the game. The Bucks beat the Eagles, but before we dive into that, remember what Baker Mayfield said a few weeks ago: they wanted me to come in here, be myself, and bring the joy back to football because the guys weren’t having much fun.

Tom Brady once said he thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings. This wasn’t daycare! If I was going to have fun, I’d go to Disneyland with my kids.

Do you have a problem with what either guy said? Not at all. Being older, I understand what Baker’s trying to say, and I also get what Tom is conveying. It’s all about perspective. It’s a conversation I have with my sons all the time. “Baby, I know what you tried to say, but you didn’t flush your whole thought out.”

That’s why I love this platform! You know why? When you were on CBS, you had 15 seconds to get out of there, like a jump rope—quick and concise. But here, you can take your time and express your whole thought.

I completely understand where both Baker and Tom are coming from. When you’re winning consistently, the expectations are sky-high. There are no weeks off; you’re expected to perform at a top level all the time.

Mike Shanahan, who coached us in San Francisco, was relentless with that offense. He stayed on us because the expectations were that we were supposed to win every single week. He’d tell us, “I’ll never accept anything in a win that I wouldn’t in a loss.” It was never just about winning; it was about believing in ourselves and playing at a level we didn’t think we could reach consistently.

Back to the game: Baker finished 30 of 47 with a season-high 347 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He even added a rushing touchdown, keeping defenders on their toes by spreading the ball around to eight different receivers. Following that rough game, Tampa managed only seven points against a then-winless Broncos squad. But they got back on track against the Eagles, who had a rough outing against the New Orleans Saints.

Let’s talk about the Eagles. Why is everyone putting it all on Jalen Hurts? You all know it’s not a one-man show. You can’t give all the credit to him when they win. They’re missing key players, including DeVonta Smith. It’s not just him out there!

Baker seems to have found a home in Tampa, looking the best he has since that playoff season with the Browns. But things fell apart in Cleveland and Carolina, which is a chaotic organization. What’s going on in Carolina? Man, tell me!

It looked good last week, but we both know how quickly things can change. It’s tough for any player to build confidence in such an unstable environment. Coming from a program like Alabama, where everyone is a five-star recruit, he’s used to a certain tempo and level of competition. Losing that confidence is rough.

I saw a change in him when he answered a question about confidence. His response was, “My confidence is in the Lord.” And I thought, “This isn’t the time for that.” You can have faith, but we want to hear you say you’re confident in yourself!

As a player, you need to tell us you’re confident, that you believe in yourself and your teammates, and that you’re going to turn things around. You have to believe that sincerely, though.

Now, looking back at our era, the guys with the cleanest images were sometimes the worst, while those labeled as “bad boys” were often the best teammates.

You know what I mean? It’s all about perception.
