Although she tried to play it cool and avoided fangirling, she managed to snap a photo with Ledecky. “I was in an elevator with Katie, and we got a picture together. I didn’t want to be that person asking for photos everywhere,” she explained.

Being in the Olympic Village has been a surreal experience for Gauff. “It means a lot to be surrounded by so many incredible athletes,” she said. When asked about her living arrangements, Gauff humorously revealed, “No bed upgrade for flagbearers—we’re still on the cardboard beds, but it’s good for the back!”
