Paris, France — As the Olympic Games heat up in Paris, rising tennis star Coco Gauff has shared her thrilling experience meeting two of Team USA’s legendary athletes, Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky. In a recent press conference, Gauff opened up about her time in the Olympic Village and her encounters with these iconic figures.
A Humbling Experience
Gauff, who has been making waves with her exceptional tennis skills, was notably excited about her role as a flagbearer alongside LeBron James. Despite the immense honor, she admitted to grappling with impostor syndrome. “It’s definitely real,” Gauff said, reflecting on her feelings. “I think it takes a minute for it to set in, but I’m super excited for tomorrow and really grateful for this opportunity.”
From Vogue to the Village
The conversation shifted to Gauff’s recent Vogue cover shoot, which she described as both exciting and challenging. “Working with Annie Leibovitz was incredible,” Gauff said, praising the renowned photographer. She humorously recounted the behind-the-scenes experience, including an unexpected beach photo that was actually shot on a grassy field. “It was a great experience, even though it felt like a blur,” Gauff added.
Meeting the Icons
Among the highlights of Gauff’s Olympic journey were her encounters with Biles and Ledecky. “Honestly, Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky were the coolest people I’ve met,” Gauff shared. Although she tried to play it cool and avoided fangirling, she managed to snap a photo with Ledecky. “I was in an elevator with Katie, and we got a picture together. I didn’t want to be that person asking for photos everywhere,” she explained.
The Olympic Village Experience
Being in the Olympic Village has been a surreal experience for Gauff. “It means a lot to be surrounded by so many incredible athletes,” she said. The feeling of camaraderie with fellow Team USA members, including LeBron James, Biles, and Ledecky, has been inspiring. “To be on the same team as all these amazing athletes is incredible,” Gauff noted.
When asked about her living arrangements, Gauff humorously revealed, “No bed upgrade for flagbearers—we’re still on the cardboard beds, but it’s good for the back!”
Looking Forward
With the Games underway, Gauff is looking forward to the competition and continuing to represent Team USA with pride. Her experiences in the Olympic Village and her interactions with sports legends have added an extra layer of excitement to her Olympic journey.
As the world watches, Coco Gauff continues to impress both on and off the court, embodying the spirit of the Olympic Games.
