Fremont Police Officer Shoots Robbery Suspect After Ramming Cop Cars (VIDEO)

Officers from the Fremont Police Department responded to an in-progress robbery reported by store employees at the Sephora Store on the 43500 block of Christy Street.

The employees reported that three suspects, later identified as Stephon Tobias, Rayduan Lindsay, and Cameron Standley, entered the store with garbage bags, filled them with approximately $19,000 worth of merchandise, and fled in a black SUV.

Fremont police quickly located the suspect vehicle on northbound Interstate 880. The vehicle, driven by Tobias, failed to pull over and sped away with its lights off, prompting a pursuit. The chase spanned approximately 10 miles and ended in Union City, where officers from the Union City Police Department joined the effort.

The pursuit concluded in a cul-de-sac on Balmoral Street, where the suspect vehicle drove onto the front yard of a residence, nearly hitting an occupied home. Officers from both Fremont and Union City Police Departments initiated a high-risk stop, positioning their vehicles to block the suspects. As officers exited their vehicles and issued commands, Tobias drove the SUV head-on into several police cars. Fearing for his safety, Fremont Police Officer Darryl Manrique fired his service weapon at Tobias, striking him in the upper body.

Tobias, a 30-year-old Oakland resident, received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local trauma center. He is now in police custody. Rayduan Lindsay, a 24-year-old Oakland resident, was not hit by gunfire but sustained a non-life-threatening injury to his lower body and was taken into custody after receiving medical treatment. The third suspect, Cameron Standley, a 29-year-old resident of Oakland/Richmond, was uninjured and apprehended at the scene.

Witnesses from Sephora positively identified Tobias and Lindsay as the culprits. Video surveillance from the store and community cameras confirmed that all three occupants committed the theft. Initially reported as an armed robbery, the investigation later determined the incident to be a felony grand theft. No weapons were found in the suspect vehicle.

The stolen property was recovered inside the SUV, which itself had been reported stolen from Berkeley. Officer Manrique, an 18-year veteran with the Fremont Police Department, was uninjured and has been placed on paid administrative leave per department protocol.

Tobias was found to be on felony probation with two outstanding warrants. Lindsay was on parole for a prior felony robbery conviction and had a warrant for his arrest related to a parole violation. Standley was also on parole for a previous felony burglary conviction.

The Fremont Police Department continues to investigate the incident, emphasizing their commitment to community safety and the swift apprehension of suspects involved in criminal activities.
