Legendary actor, director, and producer Sylvester Stallone is parting with 11 rare and highly coveted timepieces from his personal watch collection, set to be auctioned off by Sotheby’s New York next month.
The undisputed highlight of the collection is Stallone’s Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, a timepiece widely considered the “holy grail” of the watch world. This particular Grandmaster Chime is the first example of the model to ever appear at auction.
“The one thing that is pervasive throughout all these watches, is that they attract me emotionally. It’s not about keeping time, it’s about keeping in step with where you are in life,” Stallone shared in a statement about the sale.
The Grandmaster Chime, which features an astounding 20 complications, is an incredibly complex and valuable wristwatch. Industry experts estimate it could fetch upwards of $6 million at auction – a testament to both its rarity and Stallone’s storied ownership.
Beyond the Grandmaster Chime, the “Rocky” star’s collection includes a number of other highly prized and prestigious watches. Among them are an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph, a Panerai Luminor, and several Rolexes.
Stallone’s passion for haute horology is well-documented. The 76-year-old Oscar winner has amassed an impressive collection over the years, often wearing his most coveted timepieces to major Hollywood events.
In parting with these horological treasures, Stallone suggests the decision is not an easy one, but rather a reflection of his evolving priorities. “As you go through life, certain things become more or less important to you,” he said.
The sale of Stallone’s watch collection at Sotheby’s is sure to generate significant buzz and interest among the global community of timepiece enthusiasts. For many, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of both cinematic and horological history.
