NASCAR driver Hailie Deegan was involved in an incident that wasn’t fully shown on TV
On Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series raced at Darlington Raceway. After the race, one driver isn’t pleased with the television coverage.
With just 46 laps to go in the 147 lap event, Hailie Deegan spun and brought out a caution.
The left rear tire exploded. It then ripped the left rear fender off the car and took some door foam with it.
NASCAR requires cars to have foam in the doors for safety reasons. It’s there to lessen impacts. Due to the foam missing, Deegan was unable to re-enter the race.TV coverage of the incident only showed Deegan spinning. However, there’s more to the story.
Hailie Deegan comments
“Before everyone jumps to conclusions, I was on the top lane and the 07 (who was a lap down) doored me off turn 4 and it cut my LR tire,” Hailie Deegan stated via X.
The No. 07 is driven by Patrick Emerling.
She added, “I kept it out of the wall when my tire shredded but without the door foam we weren’t allowed to keep going. Not my fault they don’t have a replay.”
Deegan is currently running full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for AM Racing. So far, she has a best finish of 12th which she claimed at Talladega Superspeedway.
