New York, NY – As the New York Knicks prepare for a pivotal Game 6 against the Indiana Pacers, point guard Jalen Brunson addressed the media about his health, his focus on the game, and the support from Knicks alumni.
Maintaining Health and Routine
Jalen Brunson opened up about his health and how he maintains his routine amidst the grueling playoff schedule. “I guess, some more treatment,” Brunson said, indicating that he’s taking necessary steps to stay in top shape. “But I think my routine and everything I try and keep it the same as possible. At this point, you’re treating something for whatever you got to do. It’s something not right wherever you are, whoever we are on the team.”
Brunson emphasized the importance of consistency in his routine, saying, “My routine, I try and make sure it stays the same, no matter what.”
Focus on Key Elements for Game 6
With the Knicks facing a critical Game 6, Brunson highlighted the key elements the team needs to focus on. “The biggest thing I think is focusing on the little things,” he explained. “Obviously, you want to run and get stops and get easy baskets and execute on offense, and help each other on defense. But it’s the 50/50 balls, the hustle plays, the charges, and everything that’s really difficult to do that you have to focus on.”
He also praised the team’s resilience and mindset. “This team never quits. We have a lot of guys who have had that mindset throughout their entire career, wherever they’ve come from, and to all be together and to have it naturally, and to have a coach who wants us to feel that way as well, just to go out there and play as hard as you can and focus on the next play regardless of what happens.”
Strategy for Game 6
Reflecting on the previous games in the series, Brunson noted, “We need to forget what happened these past five games and understand that tomorrow is going to be different. They’re going to be ready to go. The crowd’s going to be into it. For us, there’s going to be things where we just need to focus on sticking together. Things might not go our way, but it’s all about how we respond to certain things.”
Brunson clarified what he meant by “forgetting” past games: “When I say forget, I mean like forget how we won. You have to understand what has worked and what hasn’t. Just because we won three games or just because one game was close, one game wasn’t, doesn’t mean it’s going to help us in the next. We can’t completely forget about the game, but we have to understand that circumstances may change and something in the game may change.”
Knicks Alumni Support
On the support from Knicks alumni, Brunson expressed his gratitude. “It’s always important to embrace those who’ve set up that foundation and the things all those players did, regardless of what the outcome was. They were there, and for them to come back and do the things that they’re doing on the sidelines, being at the game, is awesome. So I thank them for that.”
Brunson also acknowledged the significance of potentially reaching the finals for the first time since 2000. “It would mean a lot, but I’ll think about that if we get there. Obviously, it means a lot, but right now, we’re focused on the task at hand.”
As the Knicks gear up for Game 6, Brunson’s insights and the support from past legends provide a foundation of hope and determination for the team and its fans.
