A Day at the Track with Elly
Today, we’re heading to the airport early for a NAPA signing and then off to Colorado for a stock car race. The journey’s always an adventure, filled with excitement and a bit of chaos.
Hayley had her practice on Friday, and despite some struggles with the car setup, she managed to pull through. A Chad Reed fan inspired her to ride a dirt bike, which was a fun connection. In the first practice, she ended up P1, giving us a lot of hope.
During the second practice, Haley broke the track record, which was an amazing achievement. However, rain and lightning caused a delay. Despite this, the team worked hard to fine-tune the setup.
Haley’s new crew chief and she are still figuring things out, but the car felt great. In qualifying, she aimed for a top spot and started fourth. The race strategy was clear: stay in the top four and make a move during the final 25-lap shootout.
The race was intense, with some hard racing and unexpected moves. Haley didn’t expect her teammate, Derek, to race her so aggressively. Despite the challenges, she maintained her composure and made strategic decisions. She ended up making a bold move, shooting her nose into a gap and doing whatever it took to win.
Reflecting on the race, Haley admitted she had to make tough calls to win. She compared it to off-road racing, where hard racing and aggressive moves are the norms. She’s still learning the ropes of stock car racing and is prepared for the challenges ahead.
In the end, Haley apologized to Derek for the aggressive move but stood by her decision to win. She’s focused on getting better and winning more races, regardless of the criticism.
