Officer Killed, Suspect with Asylum Request Shot by Police (VIDEO)

The Fargo Police Department has released body camera footage capturing a harrowing encounter where a suspect ambushed officers, resulting in the death of one officer and the suspect being shot.


The incident began as a response to a domestic disturbance call on 80th street and Niagara Falls Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers encountered 29-year-old Reginald Barnes, who resisted arrest and then stabbed Officer Dominic Senese. In response to the attack, Officer Greg Paul and Lieutenant Joseph Scibilia opened fire, striking Barnes.

The body camera footage shows Barnes brandishing a firearm and firing at officers, prompting a swift and decisive response. Despite being hit by gunfire, Barnes attempted to continue his assault, leading to additional rounds being fired by the officers. Ultimately, Barnes was incapacitated, and officers immediately administered first aid before he was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Officer Senese sustained minor injuries from the altercation, highlighting the dangers officers face in the line of duty. The swift actions of the responding officers prevented further harm and ensured the safety of civilians in the vicinity.

The release of the body camera footage sheds light on the chaotic and dangerous nature of police work, underscoring the importance of proper training and preparedness in handling high-risk situations. 

The incident remains under investigation, but the bravery and heroism displayed by the officers involved serve as a testament to their dedication to protecting the community.
