We’re following breaking news from overnight as protests across college campuses intensify, demanding an end to the war in Gaza. Notably, UCLA and Columbia University have become hotspots for these demonstrations. Cleo Green reports from our breaking news center with the latest developments.

The images are alarming and the protests are escalating, far from peaceful. At UCLA, violent clashes erupted between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli groups. Students attacked each other, with pro-Israeli demonstrators surrounding the pro-Palestinian encampment, spraying pepper spray, and setting off fireworks. Several injuries have been reported, though the exact number is still unclear. Notably, no police officers were present during these clashes
Hours earlier, at Columbia University in New York, police had to use a SWAT truck to gain access to a room occupied by protesters for nearly 20 hours. Approximately 50 people were arrested, their hands zip-tied. The decision to move in was made by the university president, who cited the building occupation and related disruptions as posing a clear and present danger.
This morning, the police commissioner addressed the increasingly violent nature of these protests, attributing it to the influence of professional outside agitators. This pattern might be seen in Texas as well, where another large protest is anticipated. Our senior political reporter, Jason Whiteley, is on the ground in Austin to cover these developments.
The escalating violence at UCLA and Columbia University underscores the growing tensions surrounding the conflict in Gaza. As students and activists clash over their differing views, the presence of outside agitators appears to be exacerbating the situation. Authorities and university officials are grappling with how to manage these protests and ensure the safety of all involved. As the situation continues to develop, the impact on college campuses nationwide remains a critical concern
