The incident occurred on June 7th, when police responded to a call about a man armed with a gun who was threatening to harm himself and others. A tense standoff ensued, with the SWAT team attempting to negotiate with the suspect.
According to the footage, the man can be seen emerging from a home and brandishing a firearm. After repeated commands to drop the weapon, officers opened fire, fatally shooting the individual.
Though the details are still under investigation, the release of Officer Fabian’s bodycam video aims to offer a more transparent account of the sequence of events leading up to the use of lethal force.
“Our goal in releasing this video is to help better understand what happened that day,” said Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina. “Anytime there is a loss of life, it is a tragedy, and we want to provide as much information as possible.”
The identity of the deceased has not been publicly released, pending notification of family members. The incident has been referred to the multi-agency Shooting Review Team for further evaluation.
This latest episode underscores the complex and often high-stakes nature of police response to calls involving armed and potentially volatile individuals.
The Albuquerque PD’s decision to swiftly share the bodycam footage reflects an effort to foster greater public trust and accountability around such critical incidents.
