The suspect fired a gun at the police before they responded (VIDEO)

Reno, Nevada — A domestic disturbance call escalated into an Officer-Involved Shooting on November 5th, 2021, as Reno Police Department officers responded to reports of yelling and possible gunfire at an apartment on E Grove Street. The incident unfolded at approximately 10:40 pm, drawing attention to the tense and dangerous nature of law enforcement work.


Upon arrival, uniformed officers approached the apartment door, only to be met with gunfire from the suspect, identified as Isaiah Herndon. Herndon, wielding a handgun, fired at least one round at the officers, prompting an immediate response. In self-defense, the officers returned fire, striking Herndon multiple times.

Despite the exchange of gunfire, officers swiftly transitioned to providing medical aid to Herndon until emergency medical services arrived. He was subsequently transported to Renown Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.

On November 17th, Herndon faced formal charges, including two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Protected Person, and Own/Possess Firearm by a Prohibited Person. The incident underscores the inherent risks faced by law enforcement officers in responding to volatile situations and highlights the crucial need for swift and decisive action to ensure public safety.
