Unraveling the Mystery on Officer-Involved Shooting (VIDEO)

Captain Valerie Littlejohn of the Office of Media Relations provided crucial insights into an intense officer-involved shooting that unfolded on January 24th, 2023. The incident originated from the discovery of a stolen vehicle, taken in an armed robbery days earlier, where victims were held at gunpoint on January 22nd, 2023.

The stolen vehicle, concealed in an apartment complex parking spot in the 6000 block of Northwest 10th Street, housed multiple individuals. Upon police arrival, five suspects bolted from the vehicle, prompting officers to take swift action. Officers noticed that several suspects were armed, prompting the deployment of two impact rounds from a 40-millimeter less lethal launcher as suspects fled.

Patrick Jr. was apprehended within the complex after sustaining a canine bite. However, the scene remained tense, with confusion over who fired the shots. Wallace Mcdonald was also detained nearby. Meanwhile, Andre Butler and Jaden Khan continued to evade capture, traversing the apartment complex on foot.

Sergeant Waugh encountered suspect Butler, who pointed what appeared to be a firearm. In response, Sergeant Waugh discharged his firearm, but the suspect remained unharmed and fled over a fence.

The pursuit intensified as suspects Butler and Khan were eventually located in a creek near the 500 block of Manchester Lane and taken into custody. Meanwhile, three firearms discarded by the suspects were recovered in the vicinity where they fled.

Suspects faced various charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and robbery related to the armed robbery earlier in the week. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the incident.

Sergeant Waugh was placed on routine administrative leave pending the investigation’s outcome, underscoring the thoroughness required in such cases. As the investigation unfolds, the full details of this dramatic event will gradually emerge.
