Simone Biles is already making waves ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics. During podium training on July 25th, she dazzled spectators with her flawless performances on the uneven bars, balance beam, and her signature Yurchenko Double Pike Vault, also known as “The Biles 2.” This move, renamed in 2023 after she became the first woman to successfully land it in international competition, highlights her status as a gymnastics icon.
These Olympics mark Biles’ third appearance, which she has dubbed her “Redemption Tour,” reflecting her and her teammates’ determination to showcase their improved skills and maturity following the challenges they faced during the Tokyo 2021 Games. Biles’ withdrawal from events in Tokyo due to the “twisties” highlighted the importance of mental health, a point she recently elaborated on in an interview, comparing the experience to losing control while driving.
Chelsea Memmel, Team USA Gymnastics women’s technical lead, praised Biles for prioritizing her health and returning to the sport with renewed enthusiasm. As the Games approach, Biles is not only supported by her team but also by her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, who received special permission to attend.
The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony will air on NBC and stream on Peacock on July 26th.
