Whoopi Goldberg recently got candid about her dating life and personal choices while appearing on The Don Lemon Show to discuss her upcoming memoir, “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me.” The “View” co-host revealed her preference for “hit and run” relationships and described herself as a “fundamentally selfish person” when it comes to her personal life.

“I am fundamentally a selfish person,” Goldberg admitted. “I have a wonderful kid, a son-in-law, three grandkids, and one great-grandchild. I don’t have time for a whole lot of other people coming into my life. Runs are great, I don’t mind those, you know, but you can’t spend the night. Hit and run relationships, they still happen.”

At 68, Goldberg emphasized the importance of giving herself grace in choosing this lifestyle. She explained that the traditional give-and-take of marriage doesn’t appeal to her. “You have to give yourself permission,” she said. “You have this whole line of words stacked up in your head about what you are if you say a hit and run is where you want to be and you don’t want to be married. Am I terrible because I don’t want to? I never really thought about it. I just thought I must be doing it wrong. But it’s really a give and take, and at this point in my life, I don’t really want that. I just want to see you when I see you, and then you go.”

Fans of Goldberg will remember that she has been married three times, with her last marriage ending in 1995. She has often been open about her past relationships. During a recent episode of “The View,” she commented on the age gap in the new romcom “The Idea of You,” and reflected on one of her past relationships where her partner was 40 years older than her. “When you are like 20 and they’re 40, and even 40 and 60, but now 60 and 80 starts to get a little hairy, and 90… one of the last relationships I had, he was 40 years older than me.”

Goldberg’s honesty about her personal life and her choices continues to resonate with many of her fans. Her new memoir promises to delve even deeper into her experiences and the wisdom she’s gained over the years, offering readers a closer look at the woman behind the iconic roles and candid talk show moments.
