GOAT Simone Biles Talks Paris Olympics with Scott Evans
In an interview with Scott Evans following her historic performance at the Paris Olympics, Simone Biles reflected on her remarkable achievements and the emotional experience of competing.
“It’s still surreal,” Biles admitted. “I know what I’ve accomplished, but it might not fully sink in until I’m home and can look back at it all.”
Biles highlighted a memorable moment from the podium, where she, Rebeca Andrade, and Jordan Chiles, all Black gymnasts, stood together for the first time in Olympic history. “It was so exciting,” Biles said. “We acknowledged the significance of the moment and wanted to celebrate Rebeca’s fantastic performance.”
Reflecting on the camaraderie and sportsmanship, Biles emphasized, “No matter if you win or lose, you support your competitors because they work just as hard.”
Discussing the impact on young girls, especially girls of color, Biles noted, “Seeing us on the podium will inspire them. It’s about setting an example.”
Biles also shared her joy in having her family and celebrities like Queen Latifah, Gabriel Union, and Serena Williams supporting her. She was particularly touched by Lady Gaga’s flowers and Beyoncé’s social media shoutout. “It was so surreal,” she said of Beyoncé’s post.
As for her upcoming tour, Biles is excited, stating, “It’s going to be amazing, with new levels of performance and incredible talent involved.”
With her usual blend of humility and enthusiasm, Biles closed the interview on a light note, reminiscing about her favorite post-competition treat—pepperoni pizza. “It’s my way to celebrate,” she said with a smile.
